In 1964, Lawrence Welk, affectionately known as Mr. Wunnerful, stumbled upon a picturesque grove of live oak trees while driving on Highway 395. This serendipitous encounter led him to Esquire Oaks, a quaint mobile home community nestled around a lush golf course. Intrigued by its beauty, Welk pursued ownership, transforming it into Lawrence Welk’s Country Club Mobile Home Estates, a place he proudly associated with his name.
Welk envisioned an estate-like atmosphere, offering expansive lots and a country club lifestyle. With the help of his associate Bert Carter, they expanded the golf course and grew the community from 79 to 200 spaces, setting the stage for a unique blend of nature and modern living.

The Visionary Expansion
Lawrence Welk’s vision for transforming the modest Esquire Oaks into a luxurious estate was nothing short of revolutionary. Upon acquiring the property, he immediately set about renaming it to Lawrence Welk’s Country Club Mobile Home Estates, reflecting his ambition to elevate mobile home living to an estate-like experience. With only 79 spaces initially, Welk’s plan was to offer expansive lots and a true country club atmosphere. He enlisted Bert Carter, a seasoned manager, to help realize this vision. Together, they expanded the golf course from 9 holes to a full 18-hole course and increased the park’s capacity to approximately 200 spaces across 400 acres, creating a community that combined the charm of country living with modern amenities.

Mr. Welk himself owned two homes at different times within the community. Living under the stewardship of Lawrence Welk was an experience like no other.
